The trains were here before the complaints
One questions for the guy (Karl Fuchs) complaining about the trains traveling through Sandpoint and the associated noise.
Why did you buy a home by the railroad if you didn’t want to hear the noise? We live outside city limits and hear the same trains, so why do you need a quiet zone? The trains were here long before you moved in from Timbuktu, got your good deal, and then started complaining. Federal laws establish protocols on how trains enter public grade crossings. Quiet zones compromise the safety of railroad employees and the general public. Engineers can be fired for not obeying these laws.
So my comment to you and Bob Camp concerning quiet zones: We have several quiet zones throughout the county; they are called cemeteries. Lots of people are here because they never heard the train honk. Be grateful you are still alive and can hear a train honk.
Buck up, or move back to that wonderful place where you moved from. Otherwise, sit back, relax and enjoy northern Idaho and the peaceful feeling you get just looking at the scenery.
Oh, by the way, if you want another project to work on, come sit on my deck and lsiten to the highway. We can try to get Highway 2 closed after 4 p.m., so then we can enjoy our deck and talk without megaphone to our guests. Good luck.
