Why do trains trump our need to travel?

After watching the last of 111 oil tanker railroad cars passing from view down the tracks along Great Northern Road, I shake my head and wonder — what’s ahead for Sandpoint? A few days prior, driving to Coeur d’Alene, I saw another tanker with 106 cars parked on the tracks at Sagle, waiting, blocking several county railroad crossings. Further down Highway 95, there was an Amtrak train, stopped, waiting, certainly several hours behind schedule. Still further south was another tanker train, stopped, waiting — for what — another oil tanker train?
