PONDERAY — If someone told Dr. Marty Becker adopting a pet during the holidays is a bad idea, he would respond that “smoking is a good idea.”

The longtime veterinarian argues there’s never a bad time to adopt an animal, and often, the holiday season when families come together is the perfect opportunity to welcome a furry friend into the home.

Becker was at the Panhandle Animal Shelter Thursday afternoon working with volunteers to help get animals and humans alike into the holiday spirit of giving and togetherness.
