When it doubt, open the meeting to public

| December 21, 2014 6:00 AM

On Dec. 11, Attorney General Lawrence Wasden was in town giving a three-hour workshop on Idaho’s Open Meeting Law and Public Records Act. It was standing-room only at the library.

Conspicuously absent were members of Sandpoint’s city administration. They were busy hosting a meeting behind closed doors about oil and coal trains, which happens to be a subject of considerable interest to the public, but the public was not notified or wanted. In fact, the mayor turned away a citizen who had found out about it and wanted to sit in.
