Veteran remembers unforgettable holiday

| December 25, 2014 6:00 AM

I joined the Navy when I was 17 years old. At Christmas 1945, I was 18 years old, stationed at Subic Bay in the Philippines as a shipman first class and I was very lonely. It was my first Christmas away from home. I was on a patrol craft, PC609. It was about 160 feet long and we had around 65 crew members.
