Thunder boys notch pair of solid MCL wins

KOOTENAI — The Kootenai Thunder boys notched a pair of big wins recently, building momentum for the season-ending Mountain Christian League tournament, which starts today at the Oaks Academy in the Spokane Valley.

Zach Couch and Joel Crosby each scored 11 points to lead the Thunder to a hard fought 41-40 win over the North Idaho Christian School Royals in Hayden Lake. T.J. Alsager added nine points and Shayne Jensen and Curtis Roop five apiece in the win over the Royals, who are second in the MCL.

In the following 46-36 home win over Genesis Prep on Saturday, Couch once again led the way with 10 points, followed by Alsager and Jason Roop with nine each, Crosby with seven, Jensen with six, Curtis Roop with five and Joel Smith with two in the win. The Thunder ran their record to 10-4, and enter the MCL tournament as a dangerous No. 3 seed.

The Thunder girls took on the North Idaho Christian School Royals in Hayden Lake, losing 55-28. Scoring for the Thunder were Rebecca Keller with 10 points, Taryn Osman and Tessa Murray with six points each, and Hali Aller, Ayden Osman and Melina Smith with two points apiece.  

The Thunder girls go into tournament with an 0-10 record in Mountain Christian League play, and will be seeded No. 6 in the season-ending tournament.
