SANDPOINT — Emily Deitz won the overall high point award for her age group, and Payton Bokowy broke the meet record in the 200 fly, leading a strong showing by the Sandpoint Sharks at the IES Junior Swimming Championships in Spokane.

Deitz won the 100 breaststroke, and Payton the 400 individual medley. The pair will add some octane and talent to the Sandpoint High School team next fall as freshmen.

A host of other Shark swimmers also won events, including Caleb Norling (200 free), Miles Luce (500 free), Kayle Remsen (100 fly), Jack Clark (50 free), Sierra Speakman (100 fly) and Kate Bokowy (50 back).

“The sharks swam very well, with most of them making finals. At finals they either dropped more time or moved up places from the earlier prelims,” said coach Mike Brosnahan. “This has been one of the highlights of the season, with the Sharks swimming fast and winning races.”
