Summers leads Spartans past Fruitland in state opener

MIDDLETON — Katlyn Summers scored 13 points and pulled down 9 rebounds to help the Priest River Lady Spartans take a 56-34 win over Fruitland to start the 3A state tournament on Thursday.
Priest River (16-7) struggled to get their offense going and would shoot just 19 of 50 from the field, but found a way to get it done on the defensive end, holding Fr uitland (14-9) to 11 of 59 shooting from the field, or 18 percent.
