Dover deals with many new issues
While the holiday season fills much of our time, the business of running the city of Dover is ongoing. December news updates include:
1. Ontario Street. The Chuck Slough culvert on Ontario Street has been replaced and the street has reopened. The final road paving of the culvert crossing will not be completed until spring when the road bed becomes stable enough for paving.
2. City treasurer. After over a year without a city treasurer, the Dover City Council has confirmed the appointment of James Hutchens, Certified Public Accountants to fill the position. The firm was recommended by a city work group that reviewed all applicants for the position.
3. Council vacancy. In mid-December, longtime Councilwoman Peggy Burge resigned from the City Council, saying she wanted to spend more time with her family. Ms. Burge has devoted many years to Dover and the council will not be the same without her.
Idaho Code states that a vacancy on the council is filled by appointment made by the mayor and with the consent of the council. The process of soliciting and evaluating candidates for a council vacancy is at the mayor’s discretion.
The next council meeting will be at Dover City Hall on Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. where the newly-elected members of the City Council will be sworn in. The official meeting agenda will be posted the evening of Jan. 7 at Dover City Hall.
Any questions regarding city of Dover activities can be directed to the Dover City Clerk (dovercity@nctv.com).
