Timberlake outguns Sandpoint in shootout

| January 8, 2014 6:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Senior guard Keegan Scott had a monster game, dropping in 31 points to go with seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals, leading Timberlake to a 75-70 win over Sandpoint in nonleague boys basketball Tuesday night at Les Rogers Court.

The Tigers (2-8) looked nothing like a one-win team, scoring 25 third quarter points to break open a close game. Bryce Johnson, Austin Allen and Vance Kistler each hit 3-pointers in the quarter, and the Tigers would eventually build a double digit lead and hold on.

“That’s what he does. Our offense runs through him,” said Tigers coach Tony Hanna of Scott. “As good a scorer as he is, he still finds open people.”

Mason Cramer notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards for the Tigers, who were able to generate a lot of quality looks.

Jeremiah Gagnon continues to carry the scoring load for the Bulldogs, hitting 11-19 field goals en route to 28 points, at times waging a scoring duel with Scott. Nathan Schwartz added nine points, Thomas Edwards eight and Cooper Spalding and Chase Rodriguez seven for the Bulldogs (6-5), who led by two at half before giving up 44 points in the final two quarters.

“We kept battling, and I think that’s important. We knew it would be a battle. That kid (Scott) is a special player,” said Bulldogs head coach Tyler Haynes, who mentioned the Tigers’ tough early season schedule. “They’ve scheduled up, and you’re seeing the dividends of that hard, tough schedule.”

Sandpoint gets a week off to rest up before hosting Kellogg on Tuesday.
