U.S. 95 crash kills motorist
SAGLE — A Post Falls man was killed Thursday in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 95.
Idaho State Police said Barbara Allen Farrington was driving southbound when she failed to maintain her lane of travel. Her 2003 Ford Focus compact crossed into the northbound lane and into the path of a 1999 Ford Escort compact station wagon driven by Darrel C. Kirking.
Kirking, 61, died at the scene, state police said. Farrington, a 70-year-old from Thompson Falls, Mont., was injured and taken to Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene.
Farrington was not wearing a seat belt, while Kirking was, according to ISP.
The crash occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. north of Key Ranch Road.
The collision shut the highway for about two and a half hours.
Kirking, a public health program manager for the Panhandle Health District, was reportedly en route to a Bonner County Local Emergency Planning Committee meeting in Sandpoint when the deadly crash occurred.
The crash remains under investigation, state police said.
