Thunder boys split games in MCL action

KOOTENAI — Joel Crosby, Shayne Jensen and Zach Couch each scored nine points in a balanced scoring effort, leading the Kootenai Thunder to a 49-37 win over Pullman Christian School on Friday night in Mountain Christian League action at Kootenai Elementary School.

T.J Alsager added and Curtis Roop each added eight for the Thunder, Jimmy Soderberg added four and Tommy Blair two in the win, which set up a showdown the following day between the top two team in the MCL.

Oaks Academy, from Spokane, showed why they’re 9-0 in league play, downing the Thunder 63-37. Alsager led the way with 12 points, Jensen and Roop scored eight apiece, Crosby six and Couch with three in the loss. The Thunder, coached by Joel Aispuro, are now 6-2 in MCL play, second only to Oaks.

The Thunder girls were seeking their first win on Friday against Pullman, keeping the game close in the second half before falling 38-24.

Taryn Osman led the way with nine points, Tessa Murray added five, and Hali Aller, Ayden Osman, Mckenzie Montgomery, and McKayla Montgomery each scored two in the loss.  

Osman had a big game against Oaks on the following day, scoring 14 points, but the Thunder fell 52-17 at home.

Jamie Bendickson scored two and Ayden Osman one in the loss, and the Thunder, coached by Nikki Jensen, are now 0-6 in MCL play.
