Fireworks show was less than inspirational
Local Sandpoint business suffered through the doldrums of spring, and the repercussions of Coldwater Creek’s bankruptcy. There is a local entrepreneur who is purchasing eating and drinking establishments, and a few local high-end Realtors who are marketing to new vacation home buyers and retirees, they must be benefitting from the turmoil. The parade on the Fourth of July was the best I have seen in 20 years, I was a little disappointed that no festivities were planned for Farmin Park, i.e. bands, hot dogs, etc. I would have thought that local Republican or Democrats running for office this year could have used it as a staging area?
However, the most disappointing aspect was the six-minute fireworks show. Think of all the families, children and visitors who dedicated themselves to an entire day at the City Beach, or downtown Sandpoint awaiting the day’s finale of fireworks? Personally, I’m embarrassed for the city, the business owners who rely on more support, and the few business owners that are benefitting, hoarding their financial gains, and not promoting or supporting this local city function. These groups or individuals definitely didn’t have so much as a float in the parade or even an Alfa Romeo convertible entered, waving at your customers.
Another suggestion, the city could lay off a law enforcement officer for a few days to help fund additional fireworks in the future.
This was as bad as six years ago. Go to Bayview, Garfield Bay, Hope, Dover Bay, anywhere but Sandpoint to enjoy fireworks on the Fourth.
