Bulldogs take 33 players to OSU soccer camp
SANDPOINT — The future is perpetually bright for Sandpoint soccer, as the Bulldogs took 33 boys soccer players to the Oregon State University Advanced Team Residential Camp last week in Corvallis.
The players were broken into two groups and coached by Ross Duncan, head men’s coach at Central Arkansas University, and Brett Bentley, head coach at Northwest Christian University. Throughout the week the boys participated in three daily training sessions and finished each day with 11v11 scrimmages in the evenings.
As an added bonus, Sandpoint High School was selected to train in Reser Stadium, a 46,000 seat stadium where the Beavers play their home football games, each morning throughout camp.
On Tuesday afternoon all the camp participants went up inside Reser Stadium to the executive level to watch Brazil-Germany on the big screens. In addition, on Tuesday night all the campers listened to a lecture put on by the college coaches in attendance at camp about what it takes to play soccer at the college level . The kids were allowed to ask questions and several camp coaches broke down the difference between NCAA Division I, II and III as well as the NAIA.
“It was very informative for our guys and lots of good info was presented,” said Bulldogs head coach Adam Tajan, appreciative of the community support that made the trip possible. “Thanks again Sandpoint for your help and support to make this happen.”
The 2014 High School soccer season starts in less than a month.
