Where is concern for the mentally ill?

Let me preface my comments by stating I wasn’t there. My question is, am I the only one that wonders what has happened to a society that is no longer concerned about the mentally ill and the treatment of them. Have they become less than human in our eyes?

It appears that more and more human beings are afflicted with some form of mental illness, whether it is from substance abuse or improperly diagnosed and treated forms of same.

Is our only solution to this growing problem going to be the sanctioning of law enforcement’s answer to just eliminate them from the face of the earth without the benefit of a trial, justifying their actions in doing so with some law or some other contrived excuse.
