SANDPOINT — More than 24 hours after a windstorm whipped through the region, thousands of residents were still without power Thursday evening.

In the greater Sandpoint area, Avista Utilities reported 1,214 customers were without power — down from more than 3,150 customers reported without power after the storm toppled trees and knocked down power lines.

Northern Lights, which serves rural Bonner County and areas of Boundary County, 3,600 customers were still without power. At the height of the storm, about 12,000 customers were without power.
