Howley closing in on record swim
<p>Elaine Howley begins her record-breaking swim. She's expected to reach City Beach about 3:30 p.m.</p>
Twenty-six miles down, six more to go.
That's where marathon swimmer Elaine Howley is at in her bid to swim the length of Lake Pend Oreille.
Swimming an estimated 2 miles per hour, Howley should arrive at City Beach about 3:30 p.m. Residents are invited down to welcome Howley and cheer her on as she swims the last few strokes to the beach by the Statue of Liberty.
After the swim has been certified, a celebration will be held at the City Beach pavilion.
