Sandpoint Sasquatch win regional U10 baseball tournament
SANDPOINT — Baseball wins by Sandpoint teams against Coeur d’Alene and Lewiston are few and far between, which is why manager Bob Jacobson was so excited to see the Sandpoint Sasquatch U10 baseball team win the championship at the recent Hayden Summer Baseball Classic.
The Sasquatch lost 9-6 to host Hayden in the opener of the four-team tourney, then proceeded to reel off three straight wins to claim the championship, beating Coeur d’Alene 14-4, Lewiston 5-4 and Lewiston again 6-2 in the championship, validating the previous win.
“I’m really proud of these kids,” said Jacobson. “Something like this hasn’t happened in Sandpoint in a long time to beat those caliber teams at any level.”
Hunter Jacobson, Zeke Roop, Ethan Butler, Augie Lehman and Gerrit Cox handled the pitching duties, and joined Avery Bockish to form a solid infield.
Outfielders Colin Roos, Blake Sherrill, Trevor Meyer, Austin Edwards, Cody Newhart and Kody MacDonald patrolled the outfield. Jacobson hit a home run, joining Bockish, who hit one earlier in the year.
“Very solid hits from all the players,” said Jacobson of the balanced batting order.
The team also scored 48 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Kimberly to tune up for the Hayden tournament, and will travel to Kalispell, Montana for a tournament next weekend.
The Sasquatch would like to thank The Bridge, Ridgerunner Concrete, David Nye, Newhart Orthodontics, Todd and Chris Newhart, Tony and Trish Butler and Buck Roop for sponsoring them this season.
