SANDPOINT — Given his 50 years living and working in the community, it’s hard to find a local who doesn’t know “Doc Lewis.”

It’s hard to fathom the number of pets that have crossed through Jerry Lewis’ office doors for some tender loving care over his five decades operating Pend Oreille Veterinary Service. He’s also proven key to several professional and philanthropic organizations, including the Inland Empire Veterinary Medical Association, the Idaho Veterinary Medical Association, 4-H, skiing organizations and church groups. In recognition of his long career and service, the Lions Club has selected him to head up the honorary position for this year’s Fourth of July parade.
