Sinking barge leaks fuels
SAGLE — A fuel spill from a sinking barge Sunday afternoon shouldn’t have any long-term impacts, according to emergency response officials.
Between 50 and 70 gallons of diesel, gasoline and other hazardous materials leaked into Lake Pend Oreille following the unexpected sinking of a barge, according to Sagle firefighter Jason Cordle.
After a cleanup effort from Sagle Fire District, Sandpoint Fire Department, Region 1 Hazmat Response Team and Bonner County Emergency Management, Cordle said he anticipates no long-lasting environmental damage.
