Support of veterans is appreciated
Thank you to the Vietnam vets for putting on the Stand Down at the fairgrounds, for their service for our country and to all the others who participated in the Stand Down, including the Boy Scouts.
Also, thanks to John Nitcy, teacher and advisor to the Sandpoint High School Honor Flight Club, and to the members. Their honoring our veterans is very gratifying. It’s amazing that a teacher in France is telling her students about what American GIs did for their country in World War II. This is especially good to hear now, at a time when a lot of the younger generation doesn’t have much of a grasp on our history and other nations act like they hate us.
Thanks to the Bee for the really good article May 11, 2014, on the D-Day tribute and the wreaths that Honor Flight made to send to the American cemetery in France. I’m proud of these young people. I’m especially proud of my great-niece, Emma Weisz, for all her work in this. Emma’s dad, Gary Weisz, is a Vietnam veteran, her grandpa, Joe Weisz, is a World War II veteran and served in Germany. My husband, Ed, is a World War II veteran, a little younger than his buddies, and didn’t make it overseas, but was scheduled to be sent to Okinawa just two weeks before the war with Japan ended. So I truly appreciate all these tributes.
