Leadership changes keep Dover moving ahead

| March 4, 2014 6:00 AM

On Feb. 6, the City Council unanimously selected Councilwoman Annie Shaha as the new mayor of the city of Dover.

As a member of Dover City Council for the past two years, Councilwoman Shaha has worked tirelessly to bring accountability to the budgeting process and her managerial experience from the private sector has been invaluable.

Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter’s office interviewed several potential candidates to fill the council seat vacated by Shaha and then selected Diane Brockway to fill the position. Brockway brings a wide range of experience in the areas of health care, strategic planning, budgeting and new business development. The city clerk swore in Brockway on Feb. 24.

The next task for the mayor and City Council is to fill the remaining vacant seat on the council. Now that the City Council once again has a quorum, Mayor Shaha will be appointing a candidate and the City Council will vote to confirm the appointment. Interested residents should submit a letter of interest to Mayor Shaha by mail at 699 Lakeshore Drive, Dover ID 83825 or by email to Mayor Shaha at ashaha@dovercityhall.com

The mayor and City Council are working to fill the board position on the Dover Urban Renewal Agency that has been vacant for more than two years. Mayor Shaha has appointed Jim Haynes to the position. The City Council will vote on the appointment at the council meeting on Feb. 27. Haynes was raised in Dover where his father, D. Haynes worked as head of engineering for Pack River Lumber Company, where Dover Bay Development is presently located. Haynes serves as chairman of Southside Water and Sewer and lives in Sagle.

In order to conduct Dover city business efficiently, the council will be holding meetings twice a month. The council meetings will be held monthly at the Dover City Hall on the second Thursday at 7 p.m. and on the fourth Thursday at 4 p.m.

The public is welcome to attend all council meetings. Public comment is taken at the beginning of each meeting. Agendas for Council meetings can be found at http://www.CityOfDoveridaho.org approximately 48 hours prior to the meeting. Please contact Mayor Shaha ashaha@dovercityhall.com or Bill Strand, City Council president, BillStrand@CityOfDoverIdaho.org with any questions.
