WBCSD levy is nothing more than a slush fund

I have been an administrator and teacher in the public school systems for more than 37 years. I have also been a teacher at a major university in the graduate education department.

I am wondering if any of you citizens are tired of your property taxes going up, up, up. Last year, mine went up more than $300. When I called to find out why, I was told it was because of the school levy that was voted in by the residents last year. Now, this year, they have increased their request from more than $1.7 million to $3.5 million! If voted in this year, it could raise your taxes from $600 to $1,000 more than what you are now paying.

This levy is nothing more than a slush fund for the school board and administration. I have looked into how they are spending the money, and it is primarily for items that are not required nor needed to educate our students in a satisfactory manner. The state gives our district a very adequate amount of money, but the district, board, and administrators have become quite greedy, and instead of working within their budget, they just want more.

On this election, if they don’t get enough votes, they plan to have up to two more additional elections to try to push this levy through within the next several months.

If you want to see your property tax bill go down next year, vote no on the school levy.
