Arrest warrants lead to standoff

| March 11, 2014 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — A standoff between law enforcement and subjects wanted on arrest warrants blocked off a portion of North Ella Avenue on Monday night.

Sandpoint Police Chief Corey Coon said one subject surrendered, although a second subject remained holed up with other individuals in a home.

The Bonner County Sheriff’s Office sent out a notification at about 7:45 p.m. that there was police activity in the 600 block of North Ella and advised residents to steer clear of the area. Bystanders at the scene, however, reported that the commotion appeared to actually focus on a Poplar Street residence.

The sheriff’s Emergency Response Team was on the scene. Paramedics staged in the neighborhood.

Additional information was not immediately available late Monday night. Sheriff Daryl Wheeler could not be reached for comment.
