Group joins 'ag-gag' suit

SANDPOINT — A local vegetarian group is joining a national effort to overturn an Idaho bill prohibiting documentation of animal agriculture activities.

Dubbed the “Ag-Gag Bill” by its opponents, SB 1337 criminalizes whistle-blowing in the Idaho animal agricultural industry by banning documentation of on-site practices. Signed into law by Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter on Feb. 28, the bill has provoked criticism from animal rights groups around the country. One such group is Sandpoint Vegetarians, which is joining organizations like the Animal Legal Defense Fund, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the American Civil Liberties Union of Idaho and the Center for Food Safety in a federal lawsuit to overturn the law.
