Month shines spotlight on colorectal cancer

We had Mardi Gras, then St. Patrick’s Day, and many of you might not know that today is World Poultry Day, but the whole month is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and it’s time I shared the good news, bad news story about this disease that’s the third leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S.

In a USA Today story that published Monday, we learned that colon cancer rates have dropped by 30 percent over the past ten years in people over the age of 50. Quoting a study written by American Cancer Society researchers published in “Cancer,” this article credited colonoscopies for this success.
