SANDPOINT — The 24/7 help line rang at Sandpoint Community Resource Center and, as always, was answered immediately.

“I want my $500,” the caller said.

Um, say again?

“I heard there was an agency in Sandpoint that gives everybody who calls $500 and I want my money,” said the person on the other end of the line.

Attempts to determine the caller’s needs or how the center might be of assistance were met with a stiff arm.
