Sundquist, Elsfelder power Bulldogs to win in opener

MOSCOW — A big three run triple by Makayla Sundquist sparked the Bulldogs, who notched their first league win of the season when it mattered most, downing Lakeland 19-9 in the opener of the 4A Region 1 softball tournament at Ghormley Park in Moscow.

The surprise win steals the home field advantage for the No. 3 seed Bulldogs (4-15), who now get to host the No. 2 Hawks (9-13) in a loser-out game on Thursday at Sandpoint Middle School. The win was keyed by a big offensive outburst in the second and third innings, when the Bulldogs plated 11 runs to blow the game open.
