SANDPOINT — Much like Victor Frankenstein, writer, director and actor Jesse Tobin knows how to overcome adversity with a little creative thinking.

On the other hand, her creation, “The Liberation of the Butterfly,” is on course toward a far happier ending than that of the classic gothic horror protagonist.

A stage play marrying the tale of “Frankenstein” with female protagonists, multimedia presentation, a steampunk aesthetic and elements of Celtic culture and mythology, “The Liberation of the Butterfly” enjoyed marked success in its Bonners Ferry debut in March. Now the team is set to make lightning strike twice with a series of Sandpoint performances.

“When they first performed the play, I think a lot of people came to support local theater but had pretty low expectations,” said Julia Majeski, costume designer and Tobin’s mother. “They were absolutely blown away. Many people came to see it multiple times.”
