Why can't we just get along with each other?

Our/their/my community recently used a public park to host an annual Lion’s Easter egg hunt. About a month before, this community was polarized by an out-of-state religious freedoms group filing a lawsuit that a longstanding, beautiful, granite monument (that happened to be etched with the Ten Commandments) be removed from a town park. It became in-state versus out-of-state, Christians versus atheists and brother versus sister; etc. Terrible name calling, all in front of “our” children playing side by side with each other not knowing they were different from each other — yet.
