Students' tribute means a great deal
I would like to thank the students of the Sandpoint High School Honor Flight Club and their advisor, John Nitcy, for their recognition of our World War II veterans.
So often we are told kids today don’t care about the sacrifice of previous generations, but that’s not the case with these students. Their sole purpose is to honor the brave Americans that served us during that terrible conflict and I commend them for their fine efforts.
I became aware of this club through their commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landing at Normandy next month. One of my uncles, Frank Bradetich, was killed in that battle and the students wanted to do something special to mark his sacrifice. They built a wreath in his honor to be sent to France. A teacher there, Christelle Zuccolotto, and her class are working in cooperation with the club here to lay it on Frank’s grave in Normandy. A second wreath bearing the names of all our local servicemen killed in action will be released in the surf there as well.
This is a very gracious effort on the part of both groups and something my family deeply appreciates. It represents the best in our children today and a reason to feel very good about the future.
