SANDPOINT — The Bonner County Planning & Zoning Commission denied a conditional use permit Thursday for a proposed counseling center on the Montana border.

The North Idaho Work Academy was planned on a remote 20-acre parcel on the south side of the Clark Fork River.

The proposal ran into heavy opposition during a public hearing at Hope Elementary School last month. More than 40 people voiced opposition to the proposal due to concern that it would bring troubled individuals into their neighborhood, jeopardizing its safety and tranquility.

The hearing continued on Thursday to give Bruce Boudousque an opportunity to rebut the concerns raised by the public.
