SANDPOINT — As the weather grows colder, the plight of individuals and families without permanent homes becomes grimmer.
The people behind Transitions in Progress Services know that all too well. Every year, people like TIPS supportive housing manager Tamie Martinsen and homeless liaison Gina Graham work to keep homeless locals safe during the cold fall and winter months.
And when National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week rolls around, they take special efforts to educate the public that while homelessness in Bonner County might not be as visible as it is in cities, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
A national event that spreads awareness about the reality of homelessness in communities, the Nov. 15-23 event is one of the biggest opportunities for awareness raising for TIPS and supporters.
