Veteran's annual trip honors comrades

SANDPOINT — The young men he served with — his friends — are never far from Bud Wininger’s mind.

Almost 70 years after the end of World War II, Bud Wininger said it’s his duty to remember his comrades. It’s why he’s a member of the local Marine Corps League chapter and why, for the past several years, that he’s made the hour drive from his home in Heron, Mont., to attend a celebration making the “birthday” of the corps.

“Camaraderie,” Wininger said of why he never misses the event. “Once a Marine, always a Marine.”
