Host of Top Dogs claim titles at Panhandle Championships
SANDPOINT — Jorden Tyler upended fellow Top Dog wrestler Dillon Tope to claim the title and lead a parade of 24 Top Dogs to the podium at the North Idaho Panhandle Championships, held at Sandpoint Middle School last Saturday.
With more than 500 youth wrestlers from Montana, Idaho and Washington in attendance, Top Dog advanced 11 wrestlers to the finals, many advancing through a 16-man bracket.
Joining Tyler and Tope in the finals were fellow title-winners Wyatt Kayser, Tyssen Case, Jack Preston and runners up James and Jack Schriber, James Schriber, Coleman Inge, Blake and Shane Sherrill, and Antonio Medina Lopez.
As in the past, a handful of Top Dogs will extend their season an additional week when they compete at USA Wrestling’s Bigfoot Tournament on Saturday at the Spokane Convention Center.
• Third place finishers: Greysen Johnson, Cameron Barrett and Michael Riley.
• Fourth place finishers: Garrett Koehler, Tyson Hodges, Shawn Russell, Owen Wimmer, Dylan Nalley, Nolan Randles and Gregory Belgarde
• Fifth place finishers: Matthew Clifton (who also won a previous tournament in Coeur d’Alene) and Ryan McNelley. Sonny Aitken finished sixth to round out the Top Dog placers at the season-ending tourney.
