Conflict brews over center

CLARK FORK — For Iris DeMauro and her supporters, a new Clark Fork community center can only be a good thing for the town’s residents and youth.

City officials, on the other hand, aren’t so sure, and that’s primarily due to the need to give up public right of way in order for the center to be constructed. A conflict that’s been brewing in Clark Fork City Council meetings for the past year, the issue is set to be revisited at a Monday meeting set for 7 p.m. at Clark Fork City Hall.

The issue is a personal one for DeMauro. She’s long been convinced that Clark Fork kids need an outlet for energies that can otherwise be funneled into destructive ends. In fact, she has first-hand experiences with exactly that kind of behavior as her property has been vandalized by teenagers on multiple occasions, she said.
