SANDPOINT — A request to Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter and other involved organizations to refrain from changing the Pend Oreille lake level highlights this week’s council agenda.

Weighing in on an ongoing conflict over the lake level, Sandpoint is considering joining the request to preserve existing fall and winter lake level policies. An issue that’s been developing over the year, lake level management has proven a complex issue that has tied up the interests of the governor’s office, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Bonneville Power Administration, the Kalispel Tribe and more. Sandpoint officials are considering a resolution to add support for those concerned a lake level draw down could impact the local economy and quality of life.
