Officer in dog shooting has pay clipped

COEUR d’ALENE — The police officer who shot and killed a pet dog in July has had his hourly wage reduced by $3.15.

The pay cut for Coeur d’Alene Police Officer David Kelley, who has 17 years of experience in law enforcement, went into effect Oct. 1. According to the results of public record requests, the officer now makes $31.02 an hour.  

On July 9, Kelley — responding with Police Recruit Officer Jason Weidebush to a report of a suspicious van parked outside a business — shot and killed Arfee, a black Labrador owned by Craig Jones. Jones was inside Java on Sherman at the time and was unaware of what was unfolding outside.
