Schools locked down during incident
SANDPOINT — Several schools initiated lockdown procedures in the wake of a Northshore neighborhood home invasion Tuesday morning.
According to Lake Pend Oreille School District Superintendent Shawn Woodward and Forrest M. Bird Charter School emergency response coordinator Hillary DeCecchis, both Washington Elementary and the charter middle and high schools enacted emergency procedures while law enforcement pursued a home invasion suspect.
“(The police) basically just said there was a flight risk in that general area,” Woodward said.
Forrest M. Bird Charter School students and staff spent around an hour implementing lockdown and lockout procedures. According to DeCecchis, they received notification at around 10:30 a.m. that a lockdown procedure was recommended.
