Wampus Cats whip Warriors in home opener

CLARK FORK — Brandan Bowen picked up right where he left off last week, intercepting the first pass of the game and taking it to the house, as the Wampus Cats took care of business in their home opener, downing Kootenai 34-6 in White Star League action Friday night in Clark Fork.

Bowen added touchdown runs of 19 and 37 yards, staking the Wampus Cats (2-0, 2-0 WSL) to a 20-0 first quarter lead.

The Warriors (0-1, 0-1 WSL), in a rebuilding year after being one of the top North Star League teams for the past few years, cut the lead to 20-6 in the third quarter on a seven yard run by Hunter Whipple.

The Wampus Cats only dressed 10 players, including three freshman, and the win over Kootenai was a long time coming for head coach Brian Arthun.

“It’s probably been since 2006 since we beat them. The guys are really buying into taking care of the ball and creating turnovers. We had five turnovers,” said Arthun. “The turnover ratio has been big for us. The three freshman are getting a welcome to high school football.”
