Tax fraud scam making rounds

SANDPOINT — If you happen to get a call indicating you’re suspected of tax fraud and in danger of being arrested, try not to panic.

Precisely that situation happened to local residents Stephen and Anita Hoag Thursday morning. The couple quickly — and correctly — identified the phone call as an attempted scam. However, they worried that if the region is being targeted by scammers, there might be a few unable to see through the malarkey.

“My wife decided that we should try to let people know about this,” Stephen Hoag said.
