City water dispute prompts policy change

SANDPOINT — A dispute with a water user is prompting the city to update its policies regarding water metering.

With one account holder refusing to pay a bill, the city is now requiring all customers to have either their individual houses metered or their water lines metered.

Previously, the requirement for a water meter installation only applied to new hookups. The new ordinance removes the word “new” from the section, which effectively requires all existing users to have a water meter installed. Council members approved the measure earlier this month.
