SANDPOINT — Residents with an appetite for charity have the opportunity to fill their bellies and hearts at Jalapeños Thursday night.

The restaurant is participating in an effort to raise funds for local resident Suzy VanDenBerg following her diagnosis earlier this year with ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory disease of the large intestine. From 5-9 p.m., all proceeds from the restaurant will be used to help the VanDenBerg family with the mounting medical expenses.

“We are very fortunate to live in such a supportive community,” said Natalie VanDenBerg, Suzy VanDenBerg’s daughter and one of the organizers behind the fundraising campaign. “People close to our family and even people I barely know have approached me asking what they can do to help or to just let me know they are praying.”
