Community helping man battle cancer

SANDPOINT  — No one expects to get cancer at the age of 23, but that’s exactly what Zachary Simmons is facing.

A husband and father just beginning his adult life, Simmons didn’t think there was much to worry about when he first noticed lumps in his neck. It wasn’t until doctors checked him over after a car accident that he learned he has Stage IV neck cancer. Now Simmons’ family is racing to help him secure the medical help he needs.

“If he doesn’t get surgery, the tumor is going to spread into his brain,” said his sister, Jennifer Gates.
