Kiebert leads Wampus Cats in five-set loss
MULLAN — After getting swept by Mullan at home in the first meeting of the season, Clark Fork showed great improvement but still fell short in a 25-19, 13-25, 25-14, 17-25, 15-9 five-set loss to the Tigers in North Star League volleyball action Thursday night at the Mullan Pavilion.
Leslie Kiebert hammered a match-high 16 kills to lead the Wampus Cats (3-7, 1-4 NSL), who continue to close the gap on league foes.
“Overall, the girls played well. The games we won were won by playing good volleyball. The games we lost we made neck-up mistakes, we weren’t thinking one step ahead,” said Cats head coach Courtenay Kiebert. “We’re getting better every game, and what matters is districts. Hopefully by then we’ll correct the mental mistakes and be a well-oiled machine.”
Nona Young tallied four kills and 13 set assists, Allison Warner four aces, Emily Garman seven digs, Hope Kinney five aces, Sarah Holderman four blocks and Leah Compton two kills in her varsity debut for the Cats.
Mullan (6-1, 4-1 NSL) is the team to beat so far for Clark Fork and Kootenai.
The Wampus Cats host the Post Falls JV on Monday.
