Sometimes change can benefit community

| April 9, 2015 7:00 AM

In response to a letter written about the Sagle Senior Thrift Store, I have a few facts that I will share in a moment.

First, I must say that I was not around for the “firing” of this individual from her volunteer position.

Most nonprofit or even profitable organizations have a board made up of several individuals who make decisions that are best suited for whatever entity they are affiliated with for the good of their assets and community. It is unfortunate that anyone felt anger or pain with the board’s decision. The board has an obligation to the betterment of its assets and community, to me that seems to be what took place here, not the decision to hurt anyone’s feelings.

When one feels wronged or anger, Ephesians 4:31 says, “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with malice.”

Let me list some facts:

1. The Sagle Senior Thrift Store is in business to provide the Sagle Seniors with Services and a facility to mingle with others of like ages. I know this is a service that many just like yourself still enjoy.

2. The store takes donated items that are deemed unsalable (torn or badly stained after laundering) and does donate many to Green Cross, which is a clothing recycle company.

3. Donations to several entities in and around Sandpoint and other areas are still in place to help families and individuals who are having a tough time. Recently, three boxes of clothing were boxed and donated to families caught in the middle of an unfortunate war in Afghanistan. This shows the far reaching arms of a small store in Sagle and their caring for others.

I will conclude by saying thank for all the many positive comments about the store and how nice things are looking and to the volunteers making this happen. My thoughts are, sometimes change can be good. The unfortunate thing is that a single individual feels wronged instead of realizing that change can benefit a larger community.

The Sagle Thrift Store wants everyone in the community to know that your clean slightly used donations of clothing, tools, and all other slightly used items has always and still remains greatly appreciated!

Thank you for being there for the senior community and hope to see you down the road.
