Hellar leaves 'gift' to arts, community

SANDPOINT — Gretchen Hellar held many titles during her long and active life: professor and educator, businesswoman, director, mayor, master gardener, activist, gourmet cook, scholar, visionary, and artist to name a few.

Philanthropist can now be added to her list of accomplishments.

Prior to her death in November, Hellar began to research her giving options, and set about establishing a fund now called the Bonner Fund for Arts Enhancement, meant to provide continued support for one of the things Hellar felt strongly about: the arts.

It’s a gift that will continue to give long after her passing.
