Dog adoptions resume at animal shelter

PONDERAY — The Panhandle Animal Shelter is resuming dog adoptions following the confirmed diagnosis of canine distemper in 19 puppies.
“The decision to suspend adoptions was a safety precaution to contain the incident,” said Mandy Evans, executive director of the shelter. “We ran blood titers to check for antibody protection in all our adult dogs and have declared them to be protected and safe from distemper.
As a result, the majority of the shelter’s population is now available for adoption.
