Vaccinations key to controlling disease

| April 28, 2015 7:00 AM

Fifty years ago, it was common for a child to develop measles or pertussis. Unfortunately, many even died from these serious diseases. The stories are heartbreaking. Today, thanks to advances in public health, many practicing physicians have never seen a case of measles or pertussis in person.

Last week, April 19-25, marked the annual observance of National Infant Immunization Week. We commend vaccine research and accomplishments in improving health. Communities around the country are encouraging parents to protect their children’s health by vaccinating them against preventable childhood diseases.
