Baldree, Holland lead Bulldogs over Hawks

RATHDRUM — Bri Baldree continues to be a workhorse ace for the Bulldogs, striking out 19 batters in two complete game efforts, and Sam Holland hit her first home run of the season, leading the Bulldogs to a doubleheader split with Lakeland on Tuesday in a 4A Inland Empire League softball showdown.

The Bulldogs (8-10, 4-4 4A IEL) had production throughout the batting order, scoring seven runs in the first two innings of the opener en route to a 10-7 win. Bri, Sam Holland, Cody Baldree, Morgan Bluemer and Topi Elsfelder each had two of the Bulldogs’ 12 hits.

“Bri killed it on the mound, we couldn’t ask for more from a freshman,” said assistant coach Betsy Dalessio. “She was hitting all of her spots, pitching 14 full innings. She was tired, but she pulled through.”

The Hawks (6-12, 6-2 4A IEL) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to win the nightcap 11-10, earning the No. 1 seed at the district tourney.

Alison Calvert and Bri Baldree each had three hits in the second game, and Sam Holland clouted a home run in a back and forth affair.

“It was a battle today, and it was hot,” said Dalessio. “We made some big mistakes, but we came back. It was great to see our whole batting order come through.”

The Bulldogs earned the No. 2 seed, and will face Moscow in a loser-out game next Tuesday in the 4A Region 1 opener at Lakeland.

The Bulldogs are at West Valley today in the regular season finale.
